  2. conductor, born in Argentina.
  3. Pianist/conductor with the English Chamber
  4. Orchestra from 1964, he became conductor of
  5. the New York Philharmonic Orchestra 1970 and
  6. musical director of the Orchestre de Paris
  7. 1975. Appointed artistic director of the
  8. Opera Bastille, Paris, July 1987, he was
  9. fired from his post a few months before the
  10. Opera's opening in July 1989. He is a
  11. celebrated interpreter of Mozart and
  12. Beethoven.
